Peace Strike Statement From Parliament Square 17th December 2011

The Peace Strike Campaign at Parliament Square announces to all concerned citizens that there is a real possibility of the ‘Peace Camp’ being disassembled and removed this Monday 19th December 2011.

A ‘Commencement Order’ has been issued to activate part of the new ‘Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011′

SOCPA 2005 parts 132 to 136 and 138 still stand, and will be repealed on the 30th March 2012.

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/2834/note/made

However, parts of the PRSR Act 2011 are being activated this Monday, which will make it an offence to sleep overnight at Parliament Square, and any items deemed associated with ’sleeping’ will be confiscated by an official in authority or a police officer. SOCPA 2005 Part 137 (use of loudspeakers) is repealed on this date.

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/2834/article/2/made

This is a strange situation as anyone with authorisation would still have ‘permission to demonstrate over a 24hr period’ however, they would now be denied shelter. This would directly contravene the ‘Human Rights Act’, Articles 10 and 11 which allow for the right to freedom of expression and freedom of Assembly. How can you carry on over a 24hr period, which is allowed, but not have the means to do so, which was legal before? There are many questions to raise.

The big issue is that the people will loose possession of parliament Square, and it will then become a controlled area.

Now more than ever, people need to be seen out on the streets. They need to be seen by the Government of the day. There is so much social injustice that is effecting so many people in so many parts of the world. All these issues are all connected.

The ongoing Congo demonstration is an example of a great social injustice that has been allowed to happen, and has been funded and supported by the West. There has been an orchestrated international silence. The Genocide in the Congo is off the scale in modern history.

War is looming with Iran, we need to organise NOW for ‘PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKES FOR PEACE’.

Our message is as important as ever. Provided that, within reason, people are demonstrating in a peaceful manner, then there should not be any objection as to how long they need to demonstrate. What harm there is, has not been identified.

The real question the Government needs to ask is:

‘WHY ARE PEOPLE DEMONSTRATING?’

‘WHAT ARE THEIR ISSUES?’

‘WHY ARE THEY SO UP UPSET?’

Government should be prepared to meet with grass root campaigners.

People do not stand in the wind, sleet and rain for endless hours without there being a very REAL concern.

The ‘Times’ magazine has just voted ‘The Protester’ as person of the year 2011. International protest has brought to the front the ignored concerns of the multitudes.

David Cameron advocates that the UK take up Christian values. ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ is the main responsibility of Christians with a ‘duty of care’ for one another. Quite right David, what greater way to express this than to stand up for injustice against our fellow human being.

Support would be appreciated on Monday 19th so that our concerns can be put forward in a peaceful manner.

Many thanks as always,

I address the Nation on very grave matter that threaten the very core of what Britain stands for nationally and internationally. A threat that will try to engulf and wash away our freedoms. It is a time when we must unite and resist this tyranny together.

“I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home Parliament Square, to ride out the storm of oppression, and to outlive the menace of tyranny,

The British Nation, linked together in their common cause and in their need, will defend to the end their protest rights, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though many countries in Europe act very harshly towards political dissidents, we shall not flag or fail in our endeavours to speak out for the common good.

We shall go on to the end, we shall peacefully resist,
we shall resist in Whitehall,
we shall resist with growing confidence and growing strength in Westminster, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall resist in Parliament Square,
we shall resist on the land,
we shall resist in the fields and in the streets,
we shall resist in the hills;
Peacestrike shall never surrender.

The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Nation, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British Political Resistors who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant legal challenge, are turning the tide of the Political oppression by their continuous ongoing protest.

Never in the history of protest in our country, was so much planned, by so many, to so few.

All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: Freedom, Justice, Honour, Duty, Mercy, Hope.

I say to you now, people of Great Britain,

We must end the corporate war in Afghanistan,

We must honour our troops,

We must bring them home!

In achieving this mighty task, after nearly a decade of war

We will be able to proclaim THIS IS OUR FINEST HOUR.

“TO END WAR – AND PREVENT WAR – THE PEOPLE MUST GO ON STRIKE”

‘TROOPS HOME’ – ‘DON’T ATTACK IRAN’

It’s up to us, the grass-roots movement!

YOU CAN’T BE ARRESTED FOR “BUYING NOTHING” AND “DOING NOTHING!”

We all know our Government is NOT listening to us and is allowing the situation in the Middle East to build up to further confrontation. We must organise and act now, if we really want a chance to stop a war with Iran.

We cannot afford to think this might not happen!

We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past and leave it until an attack on Iran is imminent or a pre-emptive strike has been made. Even if an attack were to be officially declared, by then, marches, rallies, sit-ins and protests would not be effective and would be too little, to late.

REALITY CHECK – Let’s all unite and go on strike together for all the reasons mentioned, with the aim of actually achieving our objective.

10 years of protesting, marching, campaigning and lobbying has simply not been enough!

We have NOT STOPPED ANY WAR……….THEREFORE….WE NEED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION NOW!

Our priority must be to bring our own troops home in order to prevent further war. The military industrial complex has the same wants and needs of mass global companies. Collectively, the military consume the most oil, therefore, they MUST secure more oil supplies, whatever the cost. Global companies buy, take over and dominate by financial power. If they can’t buy or control a country, they will demonise the country and then BOMB it into submission. They are the two arms of the same beast. The military is being used as the ‘armed wing’ of the Global Corporate Empire. By demanding to ‘Bring Our Troops Home’ and prevent further war, we will directly compromise and effect the political, commercial and military power all at the same time.

The governments of the world will always ignore the people’s natural opposition to war simply because they can. The only real power the people have is to refuse to comply. While we keep working, they launch ships, submarines, fighter jets, missiles, rockets, drones, deploy soldiers,…..and ignore our wishes….

We are the ones who fund the war effort, fund the repatriations, fund the funerals, fund the rehabilitation, fund the post traumatic distress disorders, and then also pay voluntary contributions to the many charities that support our war wounded. All this, and then, if we disagree with the justification and morality of the war, we live in fear of being labelled ‘unpatriotic’ It is a clever control method that always works!
We must act now, while we still can, in order to prevent a future world based on military order and compliance. By collectively being on “Peace Strike” together, we – the ordinary people – become the most powerful that we can be. We will send a clear message to our government that we will not support any acts of aggression towards innocent citizens of any country… we will not be deceived into waging wars for ‘Global Corporate’ greed and power.

We are now organizing Pre-emptive Peace Strikes.

YOU DO NOT NEED A UNION TO CALL A ‘STRIKE FOR PEACE’ THE PEOPLE CALL IT THEMSELVES!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A WORKER TO GO ON STRIKE FOR PEACE!

Includes: students, pensioners, housewives, anyone and everyone on benefit and disability allowance.

Anyone who does any activity “within the system” is actually supporting it. Therefore we need 3 days of:

NO SHOPPING! – BUY NOTHING!

NO LABOUR ! – Only emergency workers and essential workers carry on, the rest of us shut down.

NO SCHOOL, COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, NURSERY – To prevent death and injury to others, it is more important to register your concerns, rather than worry about a few days off.

NO TRANSPORT! Buses, underground, trains, planes.

NO TV! They sensationalise war.

*Strike does not include emergency and essential workers whose work and travel we support. Police, Fire Service, Nurses, Doctors, Ambulance, Carers and Emergency Utility Workers.

#PRESS RELEASE# 00.45 Tuesday 20th July 2010 Parliament Square
“Democracy Village goes on STRIKE!”

“Concerned Citizens”at Democracy Village on Parliament Square state in open defiance of the pending eviction notice that they fully intend to carry on with their demand to “Bring Our Soldiers Home Alive!”

The majority of the people in this country DO NOT SUPPORT THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN!

Young people want a future free from war and deprivation. We now have a whole generation of disenfranchised youth who are disillusioned with a government that spends our money on illegal wars of aggression and illegal occupations.

We refuse to comply with laws that prevent our message going out to the people from Parliament Square, the historical home of protest. People only gather together to risk arrest and possible imprisonment if their concerns are of the utmost urgency.

Therefore to go “ON STRIKE for PEACE” to save life is our duty and can never be illegal if the underlying cause is justified.

The Peace Strike Campaign operates an authorised 24 hour ongoing ‘Strike For Peace’ at Parliament Square, Westminster.

Since May 1st this year, the Democracy Village, with the invitation of The Peace Strike, established an ongoing fully operational village on the grassed area on Parliament Square.

During the week before the election, no major party offered the opportunity to bring an end to the war in Afghanistan. Predominantly, the collective aim of the village is to make a stand against the war in Afghanistan, and to ensure the peaceful return of our soldiers back
to the UK.

The Democracy Village is an ‘emergency camp’ reflecting the real concerns of the majority of people in this country. At this moment in time, Parliament Square is being occupied in order to put pressure on the Government to listen to the people, and to bring about peace for
all our sakes. Afghanistan is being illegally occupied by NATO forces
causing death and destruction every day, without any real justification that anyone can understand.

When the objectives of the village are met, then the occupation of Parliament Square will cease, and the village will move on to wherever else it might be required.

Boris Johnson and the GLA are concerned about any damage caused to the square regarding the grass, and the presumed restricted use to the
general public, implying that they are not welcome onto the square
now. Before Boris Johnson became the new mayor of London, there was a
major redevelopment plan for Parliament Square. It was planned to be
remodelled as a continental style piazza, and to join onto the
Westminster Abbey area. Also pedestrian crossings were to be
installed. All these plans were scrapped by Boris Johnson as there was
no money in the kitty. To date, there is damaged pavement area at the
back of the square and also loose pavement slabs that are potentially
dangerous. All in all, if there were a health and safety check to the
square then there are serious issues. Also the crossings to the square
are not safe for public use. Indeed it is the GLA that seem to be the main
obstacle to people’s enjoyment of the Square – it has failed to address
the dangers in accessing the Square and it has neglected the
infrastructure of the Square.

The Democracy Village does not deny use of the Square by people who
want to enjoy it, or to meet or to protest. All are invited and very welcome to
visit and use the space. Historically Parliament Square belongs to the people.

Peace Strike fully supports the Democracy Village in its historical
stand to bring about peace through its direct actions and ongoing
campaign work. The grass area will be maintained to avoid as much
damage as possible. Peace Strike is willing to take responsibility in
‘making good’ Parliament Square when the village moves on once its
objectives have beeen met. When the area is cleared of tents and
equipment, the grass area will be transformed to a ‘better standard’
than when it was found.

Let’s all get behind Democracy Village now……if our troops don’t
return to this country soon…… then they are lining up for another
war……..

3 June 2010

To everyone who supports my protest in Parliament Square

I became involved in peace work at Parliament Square (PSq) from March 2002 and have been resident there since May 2006. In recent years I have established the “Peace Strike” which is an authorised 24-hour ongoing campaign operating from the Square. It gives me the right to live and campaign from there. The Square is my official residence, where I am registered on the Westminster City Council electoral roll.

Authorisation gives me the right to have four permanent static displays on the pavement and the right to sleep there in my tent. I have authorisation for: a 24-hour ongoing vigil for Gaza, a 24 hour ongoing vigil for Iran and a 24 hour ongoing vigil for Tamils. I have other authorisations for similar campaigning. Parliament Square is my home and continues to be my home.

My daughter Kerry is due to give birth in London at the beginning of June. I write to inform everyone that I will be taking a short leave to help and support her and my new grandchild, and that I plan to return to the Square once they are happy and settled. I see this absence as my right to family leave as a grandmother, without having to lose my authorisation to campaign from the Square.

I raised my daughter as a single parent from when she was two years old. She has no other siblings and I am the only family member who is available to her now. I must support her in her time of need. She has been an amazing support to me and others on Parliament Square for the past eight years. From a teenager she has contributed to the care and welfare of people living on the Square: from standing guard, deflecting abuse, making placards and being a witness in court to the more invisible work of preparing and bringing food as well as running our family home while I was away doing political peace work. She never once complained or asked me for anything, even when she went without money for clothes and pocket money as my income was being used to support the peace protests on the Square. Recently she told me that even if she had wanted me to leave she would never have asked because she knew that if she did I would have left.

Now is my time to take some leave to support her. It would be an injustice if she were denied the love and care of her mother at such a crucial time in her life because I am unable to leave my demonstration.

This is only a temporary leave and I will continue to co-ordinate the campaign while I am away from the Square. I have appointed a deputy to cover for me during my absence.

Thanking you for your consideration and ongoing support.

Maria Gallastegui
